The Liver helps metabolize fat and regulate blood sugar, hormones, inflammation, and energy production.
It does this by processing, breaking down, and helping remove waste, used-up hormones, and toxic substances from the body.
When the liver becomes overwhelmed with toxins from our everyday lives, such as processed foods, alcohol, personal care products, cleaning products, and other environmental exposures, it can become less efficient at doing these things. When that happens, the result can often be things like weight gain and difficulty releasing excess weight.
This happens because inefficient fat processing leads to the accumulation of fat on our bodies; hormonal imbalances can increase appetite, slow metabolism, and increase fluid retention; and when the body shifts into protection mode because of chronic inflammation, it can become more focused on conserving resources than using them efficiently. This can make us feel more tired and less motivated to exercise.
We cannot blame all of our weight struggles on the liver… however, healthy liver function supports many systems involved in metabolism, and when those systems are not functioning optimally, they can contribute to many of the challenges people experience with energy, health, and weight release.
So the question, “How do I release excess weight?” can be better answered by asking, “How can I better support the systems in my body that are working hard for me every day?”
Here’s my answer: periodically give your body a break by reducing or excluding things that can overwhelm your liver.
That’s why at Conscious Revolution Coaching we offer cleanses quarterly.
